CITYLAND GROUP ACCOMPANIES THE PROMOTION OF TRADITIONAL VIETNAMESE MUSICAL THEATRE TO THE PUBLIC

Starting from March 18, with the support of CityLand Group (CityLand Group Real Estate Investment Co., Ltd.), the Vietnamese original musical Sóng — inspired by the life of the renowned poet Xuân Quỳnh — will officially premiere.

The Sóng musical project held an official press conference to announce its performance schedule, with the first two shows expected to take place at the Hanoi Opera House on March 18 and 19.

The musical titled Sóng (Waves), produced by the Vietnam Youth Theatre, is inspired by the poetic beauty and real-life journey of the gifted poet Xuân Quỳnh, and is now ready to be introduced to the public.

Sóng is directed by Meritorious Artist Cao Ngọc Ánh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Youth Theatre, and features an impressive creative team including musical theatre director Nguyễn Triều Dương, stage director Đào Duy Anh, and composers Minh Đạo, Tường Văn, Nam Lee, Huyền Trung, Dương Hùng, and Thanh Tâm, who all contributed to the musical composition and arrangement. The cast includes a promising generation of young performers.

This is a fully Vietnamese original musical, created entirely by a Vietnamese production team. The project follows a professional process from casting to training in vocals and choreography, aiming to create a performance that feels familiar and relatable to contemporary audiences.

Speaking at the press conference, Ms. Đoàn Thị Thu Huyền – Deputy Director of CityLand Group’s Hanoi Branch, the musical’s main sponsor – shared:

We hope to play a small part in spreading these meaningful values to a wide audience who love musical theatre in general and admire poet Xuân Quỳnh in particular — especially among the younger generation.”

At the press conference launching the Sóng musical project, Ms. Đoàn Thị Thu Huyền, Deputy Director of CityLand Group’s Hanoi Branch, delivered congratulatory remarks and shared the company’s pride in supporting meaningful cultural initiatives.

Alongside this milestone, the Vietnam Youth Theatre also expressed its ambition to establish Sóng as a modern, yet authentically Vietnamese musical. The theatre aims for the success of Sóng to lay the groundwork for the professionalization of musical theatre in Vietnam — by developing standardized processes and quality benchmarks, while producing and staging fully original Vietnamese musicals.
